In 2023, the Asia Fungal Working Group (AFWG) and Australia and New Zealand Mycoses Interest Group (ANZMIG) of the Australian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) discussed the need for a platform to regularly share cases of interest within the Asia Pacific region. Following these discussions, a collaborative partnership on the Fungal Frontiers in the Asia Pacific (FFAP) webinar series was formed.

The FFAP webinars are held every quarter and cover interesting real-life cases brought in by a selected presenter. The case presentations are further discussed and supported by a panel of experts in the field from different regions of Asia Pacific. Missed out on one of our live sessions? You can now catch all our previous webinars right here.

In this inaugural session held on 25 July 2023, Katherine Garnham presents a case dubbed “Chameleon Cryptococcus”. The case and discussion focus on persons without HIV. Hear our expert panel—featuring Professor Thuan Tong Tan, Dr Methee Chayakulkeeree, and Professor Monica Slavin, with a special case discourse by Dr Cherie Gan—discuss a case of chronic disseminated candidiasis (CDC) in the setting of hematologic malignancy. Backed by literature reviews, our speakers shed light on immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in CDC and the role of steroids, as well as management strategies for CDC with central nervous system involvement.

In the first webinar of 2024 of the Fungal Frontiers in the Asia Pacific, the panel of experts discuss the value of therapeutic drug monitoring in fungal infection cases. Two case studies are presented Zachery Webb Harvey and Deborah Mariott, while Lee Lee Low, Sumith Mathew and Jan-Willem Alffenaar round-up the panel. The session provides valuable insights on how therapeutic drug monitoring can be integrated into treatment regimes, including in the lab setting and when looking at new antifungals on the market.
