Nguyen Phu Huong Lan is currently a Supervisor at the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Vice-Head of the Department of Laboratory at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. She is also an Invited Lecturer of Microbiology and Infectious Disease at Pham Ngoc Thanh Medicine University, Ho Chi Minh Medicine University.
Dr Lan Nguyen plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing strategies to restrict the use of antibiotics in her practice. She has also been setting and developing quality standards based on ISO 15189: 2009 and ISO 15189:2012 for her clinical microbiology laboratory, which has received annual accreditation from 2012 to 2019 and recognized as a reference microbiology lab in the country in 2018. In addition to her laboratory work, she also performed clinical duties in the Adult ICU ward (2009–2012) and the Central Nervous System Ward (2016–2019) on a rotating basis.
Dr Lan Nguyen is also actively involved in various professional organizations, and she is a member of the Asian Fungal Working Group (AFWG), Vietnamese Infectious Diseases Association, as well as outreach member of American Society of Microbiology since 2017.
